In a significant step towards realizing its massive solar ambitions, the Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam (RVUNL) has announced the winners of its major solar park consultancy auction. The contracts, aimed at developing Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for a staggering 26.6 GW of solar power capacity, have been secured by WAPCOS and Power and Energy Consultants India.

This move headlines a day packed with pivotal developments across India’s clean energy sector, from green hydrogen funding to groundbreaking energy storage projects.

Breaking Down the RVUNL Solar Consultancy Auction

The auction, which underscores Rajasthan’s commitment to becoming a national leader in solar energy, was divided into two lots:

  • Lot 1 (5.2 GW): Awarded to WAPCOS with a bid of ₹12.39 million. The consultancy will cover the development of three solar parks.
  • Lot 2 (21.4 GW): Secured by Power and Energy Consultants India with a bid of ₹42.61 million. This larger lot involves the planning for six separate solar parks.

The role of the selected consultants is crucial. They will be responsible for conducting topographical surveys, assessing techno-commercial viability, planning power evacuation infrastructure, and preparing comprehensive DPRs that meet the requirements of financial institutions. This is a foundational step that paves the way for the actual development and commissioning of these gigawatt-scale solar parks.

A National Push: Green Hydrogen and Energy Storage Milestones

Beyond Rajasthan’s solar plans, November 13th saw several other key announcements that highlight the diversified approach India is taking towards its clean energy transition.

1. Green Hydrogen Gets a Boost
Union Minister Pralhad Joshi announced a substantial ₹1 billion fund to support pilot projects for the production of green hydrogen from biomass and waste materials. This initiative is aimed at reducing the cost of green hydrogen production and exploring sustainable feedstocks beyond electrolysis, potentially making the carbon-free fuel more accessible.

2. NTPC Commissions Landmark Battery Project
In a landmark achievement for grid stability, state-owned power giant NTPC has commissioned India’s first MWh-scale Vanadium Redox Flow Battery (VRFB). The 3 MWh energy storage system, located in Greater Noida, represents a significant advancement in storing energy from intermittent renewable sources like solar and wind, ensuring a more reliable and resilient power supply.

Corporate Sector Charges Ahead with Renewable Deals

The corporate world is also rapidly aligning with the country’s green goals, as evidenced by two major Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) announced:

  • Sunsure Energy signed a long-term PPA with Deepak Fertilisers to supply 19.36 MW of round-the-clock renewable power.
  • Prozeal Green Energy secured a deal to supply 70 MW of wind-solar hybrid power to Grasim Industries.

These agreements reflect a growing trend among large industrial consumers to lock in clean energy, driven by both economic and sustainability objectives.

A Glimpse at the Financial Landscape

The financial pulse of the sector remained strong, with several major companies announcing their Q2 FY 2026 results. Tata Power and Torrent Power reported robust revenue growth, while ReNew Energy posted a significant year-over-year revenue increase. Internationally, Eos Energy Enterprises reported record revenue, though it also saw a widened net loss, highlighting the dynamic and competitive nature of the global energy storage market.
