The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the PAN 2.0 Project for the Income Tax Department. The project has a financial outlay of ₹1,435 crore and aims to revolutionize taxpayer services.
Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw shared that the project will include a free upgrade of PAN cards, now equipped with QR codes for added convenience.
The PAN 2.0 Project is an advanced e-governance initiative designed to transform taxpayer registration services. By re-engineering the current systems, it aims to enhance the digital experience for taxpayers. This new version will consolidate both core and non-core PAN/TAN activities, streamlining processes and introducing a seamless PAN validation service.
This upgrade builds on the existing PAN/TAN 1.0 system and ensures a technology-driven approach to meet modern taxpayer needs.
